About the Role

As a Software Engineer, you will primarily work with Nordiska Embedded. We combine the best of two worlds - at our core, we’re a stable, regulated bank paired with a product-tech mentality that thrives on agility, curiosity, and innovation. As Nordiska expands into new markets, onboards new customers, builds new products and features - you will work closely with the Tech Leads and Lead Engineer to set technical standards and ensure that the team’s output is robust, scalable, and secure. You’ll be an important part of modernizing systems, reducing technical debt, and are a key contributor to system architecture, complex feature development, and code quality.

What You’ll Do

• Design and implement solutions using functional programming - a core part of how we architect and write our code.
• Drive engineering excellence by defining technical standards, system architecture, design principles, and long-term technology strategy for engineering excellence.
• Deliver high-impact features - implementing complex functionality that meets stringent performance, reliability, and security requirements.
• Design, build, and maintain APIs.
• Ensure best practices, clean code, testing/observability, and a culture of continuous learning.
• Collaborate cross-functionally and work closely with Product and Engineering leadership to ensure technical execution supports strategic objectives.
• Our tech stack also includes Kubernetes, Kafka, and Docker, so an understanding is beneficial.

Good to know  - You will work with evolving our tech stack. Most of our services are written in Scala with ZIO but we have a few legacy services in Akka.

We’re Looking for Someone who has

• Junior- Mid- or Senior-level depth in programming, frameworks, and system design in Scala with the possibility to work with modern technologies such as ZIO 2, Tapir, and Doobie.
• Expertise in event-driven architecture (EDA) and cloud computing (GCP). A strong interest in AI technologies is considered an advantage.
• Hands-on expertise with architectural patterns, scaling strategies, performance optimization, security, and resilience.
• Demonstrated capability to mentor others and lead by example.
• Proven track record of delivering high-quality, large-scale software systems.
• Fluency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
